‘The door to Congo is closed. Ask God to show you another country. Congo is out of the question.’

When the young Irish nurse Maud Kells heard these words she was confused. God had called her to Congo; how could the door be closed? As she prayed about it, God reiterated his word to her, ‘I have set before you an open door that no one can shut.’ (Rev 3:8)

Many times over the next fifty years, the door to Congo would close, only to be opened again and allow Maud to follow the call God had placed in her heart. The story of those years and of the many adventures that befall Maud provides a story gripping in its intensity and a life inspiring in its focus.
